Growing, Changing Prepaid

The Digital Money Form has a write up of how the prepaid money card market would look like in 2010. The report is focused on Europe and the US, but there are insights in the reports that could show us the future of this growing form of payment. Like the point that Governments are increasingly using prepaid cards to pay off benefits. There are some ideas on the prepaid card itself and how it could change; to phone based systems, as key chain adornments and as a widget on watches. Coming to the numbers, the market for prepaid is expected to reach $164 billion in Europe with Russia and Poland having the highest penetration rates. In 2010, the market for these cards is expected to add up to $ 296 billion in the US and some $ 59 billion in Japan.
