No Keywords. The Future Of Search.

Matt Kain from Imedia Connection asks an inte-resting question. Why do we have to search by keywords and not in the way we speak, in “natural language”? Matt thinks that the big brains out there are thinking this way. If we could simply search for “a PDF document of the Unilever brand key” not “brandkey unilever filetype:pdf” (neither of these searches bought us to what we were looking for). Some seriously heavy math is being used to get us to the next level of search. Something called Latent Semantic Analysis. (LSI) is a statistical method of comparing the relationships between words and passages of text in order to evaluate the quality of the content. It’s a way to arrive at context and meaning, without a one-to-one match. Outside the search world LSI is a statistical method of comparing the relationships between words and passages of text in order to evaluate the quality of the content. It’s a way to arrive at context and meaning, without a one-to-one match. Matt believes that search is a very fertile area of technological research and that newer easy forms of search will evolve soon. Read the story here. Also of interest a new kind of context management company Proximic. Also of interest how Proximic works.
