Cheering Up in a Recession

Though markets are crashing and banks are losing money, the Guardian reports on businesses that are still happy. Cadbury, for example reported a 46% rise in profits during the first half of the year, showing that however the economy, people will not stop indulging in little treats. Departmental store John Lewis reported that most of their customers were buying home décor accessories instead of heavy furniture, showing their inclination to spruce up what they have right now. Shoppers are looking for bargains at H&M, people are increasingly ordering pizza instead of dining out and wanderlust is proving to be profitable for companies organising travel inside the UK as people rethink foreign travel. Clearly, recession is not as depressing as the financial newspapers make it out to be.
