A Future Beyond TV

Microsoft has a new report out that looks at TV consumption pattern in Europe. The report looks at changing media consumption patterns. Based on current growth trends the Internet will overtake TV as the primary media channel in 2010, averaging 14.2 hours a week against 11.5 for TV. Other interesting bits from the research is pointing to the future that could emerge in India, as the role of the RC as the centre of the action is seen to diminish and the IP enabled devices, most notably the phone, taking over this role. In the next 5 years internet use on the PC will drop from the current 95% to almost 50% with connected devices, game consoles and phones taking time off. Online video has established itself as the most popular online application with more than 1 in 4 Europeans watching short and full-length videos an increase of some 150% since 2006.
