What it means to be the top search result on Google

Interesting story in Adage about how many big and respected brands are ‘hiding’ when they should come up naturally in Google search results. A company that comes up in the top few results when searched for ‘life Insurance’ it is worth some 50 to 100 million dollars in extra business, according to Craig McDonald, the Chief Marketing Officer of Covario, a SEO firm the US. There are many reasons, according to the story, why a brand might not appear high on Google search. It could be that too many companies are vying to optimize the same keyword, or that a competitor’s linking strategy is more robust, or that the brands simply aren’t buying keyword ads. A sampling of keywords when searched for in India throws up these results. Go figure if the brands you handle need to think more about optimizing their sites. Life Insurance. Small car.
